Crossing the Causeway at Noon
Information
Date: January 28 2014
Location: Lindisfarne Causeway
Category: Site
Traversing the Lindisfarne causeway, accompanied by haunting bird calls and sometimes seal cries in the distance and with the sea’s restless movement either side, always feels like leaving the everyday world and its constraints behind. Whatever the weather, the elements seem closer and more insistent and significant – the air fresher, the rain wetter, and the wind more penetrating as it buffets acre after acre of marram grass up and down the dune systems. The character of the daylight appears to blossom and sharpen with the expanding horizon to give stronger colours and greater numbers of hues, and it’s no wonder the experience stirs the imaginations of so many.
